Free forum for health and community workers providing services to people from CALD backgrounds in South Eastern Sydney.
In South Eastern Sydney in 2013 more than 50% of new HIV infections were in people born overseas.
South Eastern Sydney has a large population of people who were born overseas. Thirty-seven percent (37%) of the total resident population were born overseas including 27% people born in a non-English speaking country.
Improvements in HIV treatments are helping people with HIV live longer and more active lives however CALD communities are more likely to receive a late HIV diagnosis and have poorer knowledge of HIV. This results in worse health outcomes and increased risk of passing HIV onto others.
