Recruiting and retaining a diverse workforce (FREE Online Workshop)

Dates: 23 June, 10am-12pm / 27 July, 10am to 12pm

This 2 hour online workshop explores key areas to consider at the organisational, team and individual level when building a diverse and inclusive workforce.

It is well-documented that diversity brings multiple benefits at a number of different levels for an organisation. Having a culturally diverse workforce attracts specific skills, knowledge and new perspectives, builds connection and trust with communities, and draws service users from CALD backgrounds. The NDIS Cultural and Linguistic Diversity Strategy 2018 highlights that having a diverse workforce is an effective strategy to help organisations respond to the needs of people from culturally diverse backgrounds.

To attract and retain CALD workers, organisations need to look beyond the traditional recruitment channels and consciously adopt targeted and flexible approaches as well as build supportive and inclusive workplaces.

We’re excited to introduce Gig Buddies Central Coast, a charity that tackles social isolation for adults (18+) with mild to moderate learning disabilities and/or autism living within the region. We’re newly established on the Central Coast having been operating in Sydney for 6+ years. We pair up adults with mild to moderate learning disabilities and/or autism with a volunteer - both of whom share a mutual interest(s); age, gender and location preferences are also taken into consideration.

Once paired up, ‘buddies’ catch up 1-2 times per month and attend events of their choosing.

Essentially, it’s about adults with mild to moderate learning disabilities and/or autism attending mainstream events with a friend rather than with a support worker or a relative. We emphasise that the volunteer benefits just as much as the buddy - this is all about expanding social circles, meeting new people and trying new experiences.

We’re looking for buddies and volunteers who reside on the Central Coast. If you’d like to know more about our services, please check out our website: www.gigbuddiescentralcoast.org

For those who may have questions, our contact details can be found via the website. Alternatively, we can be reached via our Facebook, Instagram or Twitter pages
