Support the efforts of volunteers in NSW

The Centre for Volunteering, on behalf of the Australian Government, is offering grants of between $1,000 to $5,000 to volunteer involving organisations to help support the inclusion of vulnerable people through volunteering.

Volunteer based organisations can use these grants to help support the efforts of NSW’s volunteers. The grants provide small amounts that organisations and community groups can use for the following items/activities:

  • Small equipment items
  • Transport costs of volunteers with a disability
  • Fuel costs incurred by volunteers
  • Training for volunteers
  • Background screening checks of volunteers
  • Documentation requirements
  • Post COVID-19 re-engagement activities for volunteers
  • Adapting practices to support volunteers safety in relation to COVID-19

Good afternoon, Next week, Social Futures is running two virtual information sessions (October 28 & 29) for school students, parents and carers - about the NDIS and how our Local Area Coordination program can help people to get the support that they need. There are two sessions, a morning and an afternoon session: • Wednesday, October 28, 10-11.30am • Thursday, October 29, 4-5.30pm

Achieving Justice for Street Harassment

Researchers from the University of Melbourne are currently looking to interview people about their self-defined experiences of street and public harassment (including sexist, racist, homo/bi/transphobic, ableist and other forms of harassment). If you're:

-Aged 18 and older;
-Live in VIC or NSW;
-Interested in taking part in an interview about your experiences of street/public harassment and how you think justice can be achieved in response to your experiences

Please get in touch with the project team! People of all genders, sexualities, and racial/cultural backgrounds are welcome to participate.

October is Mental Health Awareness month! Share your mental health lived experiences by getting creative with South Western Sydney Recovery College and go in the draw to win a $50 eftpos voucher! Creativity encourages us to be in the moment and provides a pathway to mental health recovery. We invite you to create something that conveys your personal experience with mental illness or your recovery.

October is Mental Health Awareness month!

Share your mental health lived experiences by getting creative with South Western Sydney Recovery College and go in the draw to win a $50 eftpos voucher!

Creativity encourages us to be in the moment and provides a pathway to mental health recovery. We invite you to create something that conveys your personal experience with mental illness or your recovery.
You may want to focus on something specific e.g. the feelings you have experienced, your self-care strategies or tackling stigma.

Your creations can be anything! There is no right or wrong.
• Poetry
• Songs
• Drawings
• Collages
• Dances
• Photographs
• Knitting/crochet
• Or even baking/cooking creations!

To Participate and Enter:

• Post your creative expressions on Facebook between 1st – 30th October 2020.
• Ensure your post is set to public and use #SWSMHSummit2020.
• You may wish to share a paragraph explaining your creative piece but it is not essential.
• All entries will be placed in a draw and winner will be randomly selected on Monday 2nd November 2020.
• Winner will be announced on the SWSRC Facebook page on Monday 2nd November 2020 and the winning creative piece will be shared. SWSRC will also private message the winner.
