We have an opportunity for a highly motivated and innovative Family Advisor to join our team. This position is based in our Macquarie Park Centre. If you have a background working with families with complex needs and including separation, and have a passion for making a positive social impact through the work you do, this could be the right role for you.
About the role:
Some of the responsibilities of the successful candidate will include:
• Providing professional telephone and face-to-face client services including;
-engaging clients,
-providing needs assessments,
-referral to appropriate services
-case management
-client advocacy
• Assisting in the facilitation of parent educational groups and seminars;
• Participating in community events and interagency meetings;
• Being part of a tight-knit dedicated team of Family Advisors and Family Dispute Resolution Practitioners who deliver quality services to families with complex needs and those who require post separation services.
About the successful candidate
This is a part time position working 4 days per week. Some afterhours work will be required for this position.
The successful candidate will have:
• A degree or diploma in social work, counselling, psychology, welfare, or health related services;
• Experience in the human services environment, working directly with clients (families and children) who may be experiencing significant crises, domestic violence, or separation;
• Demonstrable skills in client assessment, engagement, and awareness of issues relating to client safety, confidentiality, and the requirements of relevant legislation (Care and Protection of Children Act, Family Law Act, and Privacy Act).
• Understanding of domestic violence and child protection;
• Knowledge of relevant legislation - Awareness of legislation relevant to the position such as the Care and Protection of Children Act, Family Law Act, and Privacy Act;
• Understanding of families and children - A broad understanding of children’s development, the needs and issues faced by children, and their families, who face crises, domestic violence, child protection matters, family separation and/or other family disruptions, as well as ways to assist clients to address these issues;
• Proficiency in the use of IT for data entry, record keeping, and communication;
• Skills in the use of information technology, including Microsoft Office applications as well as databases for communication and social collaboration, referral, and data collection;
• Experience and ability to work as a collegial member of a team, sharing information proactively;
• Excellent written/verbal skills (a basic level of counselling skills will be well regarded);

SAS Club is a new way of running and delivering social programs for those who are high functioning and don't always feel they fit into other social groups. SAS Club members become a part of a club and are encouraged to not only attend the event, but also learn new skills, increase their confidence, explore and make new friendships through our challenge and competition based social activities.
Our SAS Club is run in two age groups 15 - 25 years and 25 - 45 years.
Where are the club locations?
SAS Club runs in 16 different locations around Sydney. They are:
• Liverpool, Bankstown, Campbelltown
• Parramatta, Blacktown, Penrith
• Burwood, Newtown, Strathfield
• North Sydney, Chatswood, Hornsby
• Miranda, Hurstville
• Bondi, Mascot
Each club meets at the same meeting point in their club location each week before heading off to begin their competition challenges for that event.

Family Advocacy - A free workshop for parents on inclusive education
Education issues form many of the enquiries taken by Family Advocacy each year. The school years are such a fundamental part of life and help form who we are as an adult. Family Advocacy is well aware that these years can be difficult for families and students with disability and therefore as part of our funding this year we are conducting a number of face to face workshops around the state to speak with families and provide information, advice and networking opportunities aimed to improve the schooling experience and outcomes for their family member.
